The National Workshop on Maritime Traffic Facilitation, held on September 29 and 30 at the Ministry of Defense in Guatemala City, concluded with extremely high ratings from participants.
Coordinated by COCATRAM and sponsored by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the event brought together the main national institutions involved in implementing the Maritime Single Window. These institutions collaborated to develop a concrete, consensus-based action plan to strengthen Guatemala’s application of the FAL 65 Convention.
Attendees included the Deputy Minister of the Navy of the MDN, Edwin Loarca Cifuentes; the Executive Director of COCATRAM, Otto Noack; and the Head of the IMO Facilitation Section, Julián Abril; as well as IMO consultant Marcelo Albarrán, from Chile.

These experts’ guidance and experience were fundamental in steering the discussions and defining actions aimed at optimizing port processes, promoting efficiency in maritime traffic, and strengthening inter-institutional coordination in Guatemala.
At the close of the event, participants expressed their satisfaction with the results, emphasizing the cooperative atmosphere, the sessions’ high technical level, and the work plan’s clarity. They also expressed their commitment to follow up on the agreements and decisively move toward effectively implementing the FAL Convention of 1965.
