Hundreds of thousands of seafarers witness every day the changes in the marine environment due to human activity, including shipping. These same seafarers are a key part of the solution through the implementation of vital IMO rules and regulations developed and adopted to care for the oceans and the planet while ensuring the safety of shipping.
On Seafarers’ Day, this contribution of seafarers to the protection of the marine environment is highlighted. The Day is celebrated every year on June 25 to recognize the unique role that the maritime workforce plays in international trade, the global economy and civil society.
