As part of the 122nd Ordinary Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Central American Maritime Transport Commission (COCATRAM), the Panama Maritime Authority organized a technical visit to the Cocolí locks.

Led by Alexander De Gracia, the Deputy Administrator of the Panama Maritime Authority, the activity allowed delegates to witness one of the region’s major milestones in maritime infrastructure firsthand, reaffirming the member countries’ commitment to strengthening maritime transport and logistics integration in Central America.

The Cocolí Locks, which opened in June 2016 as part of the Panama Canal Expansion Project, are of great importance to the competitiveness of international maritime trade. Located in the Pacific sector of the Canal, the locks allow the transit of Neopanamax ships, which are significantly larger than those permitted by the original locks.
