During the 75th session of the Technical Cooperation Committee of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), held in London, the Central American Commission on Maritime Transport (COCATRAM) and the Directorate General of Maritime Territory and Merchant Marine (DIRECTEMAR) held a meeting to discuss the importance of technical collaboration between countries to strengthen institutional capacities in the maritime field.

Regarding the contributions of Member States to the implementation of IMO instruments, Chile has been a key player in various instances of regional technical assistance through DIRECTEMAR.

COCATRAM and DIRECTEMAR have maintained a strong cooperative relationship, articulating joint efforts in priority areas such as maritime safety, marine environmental protection and human resources training, which has allowed the development of workshops, courses and internships aimed at strengthening the capacities of Central American countries.

This meeting between DIRECTEMAR and COCATRAM has reaffirmed a Strategic Alliance that promotes the integration of IMO standards and contributes to the strengthening of a safer, sustainable and resilient regional maritime community.
