The Central American Commision for Maritime Transportation (COCATRAM) participated in the first Webinar for Latin America of the 2024–2025 cycle organized by WISTA Chile, which addressed Impostor Syndrome and its impact on the professional development of women working in the maritime-port sector.
COCATRAM was represented by Marcela Sánchez Brenes, Administrative and Financial Director of the institution and member of REMPORT (Network of Women in Maritime and Port Affairs in Central America), who participated alongside more than 100 attendees from various countries in Latin America and Europe.

The meeting, entitled “What if the real challenge were not to prove our worth, but to start believing in it?”, brought together representatives of WISTA from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico, Panama, Peru, the Dominican Republic, Uruguay, and Spain, as well as regional networks of women in the sector, consolidating a space for dialogue and reflection of high value for the professional strengthening of women in the industry.
The session was led by executive coach and leadership consultant Nicole Sirota, who delved into the origins of impostor syndrome and the internal barriers that affect professional development, especially for women. Through practical exercises and opportunities for exchange, tools were offered to strengthen confidence, highlight talent, and promote support networks that contribute to personal growth.
During the activity, participants shared experiences related to self-imposed demands, difficulty recognizing achievements, language challenges in global environments, and work-life balance. This created a safe space for learning and collaboration.
At the close of the event, our representative Marcela Sánchez noted, “This talk proves that women together are powerful. WISTA Chile inspires us to work better together to achieve our goals. Each step gives us clarity on what we need to improve. We must continue moving forward and take action.” Nicole shared tips for increasing visibility and for embracing fear and moving forward with it.”
Similarly, WISTA Chile, the host organization, expressed its satisfaction with the large turnout and impact of the meeting through its president, Raquel Meza. This sets a precedent for future regional events aimed at professional growth and equal opportunities in the sector.
At COCATRAM, we emphasize the importance of initiatives that promote female leadership, capacity building, and the formation of regional support communities. Our institution reaffirms its commitment to promoting the full incorporation, empowerment, and visibility of women in the Central American maritime and port sectors.
