With the aim of strengthening the regional communication strategy, the Central American Integration System (SICA) held the SICA Communicators Network Workshop from 30 September to 1 October at the SICA headquarters in El Salvador. The workshop brought together more than 50 communication representatives from the various SICA bodies.

Those in attendance at the opening ceremony included the Executive Director of the SICA General Secretariat, Ingrid Figueroa Santamaría; the Taiwan SICA Advisor, Oscar Liang; a representative of Panama, who currently holds the SICA Pro Tempore Presidency; and the SG-SICA Director of Strategic Analysis and Communications, Alexandra Naranjo. All agreed on the fundamental role of communication in bringing the integration process closer to the public.
The workshop included a presentation by Fernando Colocho, Coordinator of Strategic Analysis, on the functioning, progress and achievements of SICA. There were also sessions for sharing best communication practices aligned with the System’s four pillars: economic, social, environmental and institutional strengthening, and security.

One of the main themes was the presentation of the initiative to systematize the benefits of regional integration. This initiative was led by Mario Villalobos, SICA’s Director of Planning. There was also a think tank that addressed key issues such as institutional storytelling, audiovisual production, the use of artificial intelligence in communications, and tools for metrics analysis and strategic decision-making.
The event concluded with a session exploring shared narratives between international journalism and institutional communication to improve SICA’s media positioning and strengthen regional identity.
