With the aim of strengthening technical capabilities in maritime and port security, the workshop “Port Security Practices and Exercises” began on August 24 in Managua, Nicaragua. The event was co-organized by COCATRAM, the Chilean Embassy, and the Chilean Navy’s General Directorate of Maritime Territory and Merchant Marine (Directemar).
The training, which is taking place from August 24 to 28 at the City Express by Marriott Hotel, focuses on the implementation of the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS), combining theoretical sessions and practical exercises to strengthen port security management in the region.
The opening session featured remarks by Hugo López Sánchez, Director of Training and Education at Cocatram, and Emilio Yáñez Bravo, Consul at the Chilean Embassy in Nicaragua, who highlighted the importance of international technical cooperation for strengthening port security.
The week-long program includes modules on the planning, execution, and evaluation of ISPS exercises and drills; the preparation of technical reports; lessons learned; as well as the design of operational scenarios and the discussion of complementary topics related to port security.
