1. LOCATION: On the west coast, approximately 59 n.m. east of Guatemala, 39 n.m. west of San Salvador, in the department of Sonsonate at 13° 34′ 34.71″ N, 089° 50′ 21.39″ W.

2. OVERVIEW: Acajutla is El Salvador's principal seaport from which a large portion of the nation's exports its products. Its port cargo loading facilities allow the marine shipment of a large portion of its major exports of coffee (40%), sugar, and Balsam of Peru

3. MAXIMUM SIZE: 60,000 d.w.t., LOA 174 m., depth 12.0 m.

Containers:  Draft 11.89 m.

Bulk:  Draft 11.89 m.

Tankers:  LOA 215 m., draft 15.0 m.

4. TRAFFIC: The port handles containers, bulk grain, caustic soda, crude, diammonium phosphate, diesel, fuel oil, lubricants, molasses, motor vehicles, potassium chloride, steel products and sodium silicate.

5. PILOTAGE: Compulsory, available throughout 24 hours.

6. TUGS: Compulsory. 2×250 h.p., 1×900 h.p., 1×1,800 h.p. and 2×2,720 h.p. tugs available. Three tugs required for berthing/unberthing in port and two tugs for piloting and buoy mooring outside the pierhead. Tug's lines are not used. If required, tug's line will be used and charge included in the docking/undocking.

7. BERTHS: The port has eight berths located at three quays.
