1. LOCATION: On the Pacific coast at the entrance to the Panama Canal.

2. OVERVIEW: Multipurpose port, one of Panama's hub ports. Also includes a petroleum products transshipment terminal.

3. MAXIMUM SIZE:

Break bulk: LOA 291 m., draft 13.0 m.

Containers: LOA 304 m., draft 15.7 m.

Ro-Ro: LOA 291 m., draft 13.0 m.

Bulk: LOA 259 m., draft 9.8 m.

Tankers: Draft 12.6 m.

4. TRAFFIC: Handling containerized cargo, break bulk, bulk, products and Ro-Ro.

5. PILOTAGE: Compulsory, provided by the Panama Canal Authority.

6. TUGS: The harbour tug operation in Balboa is a contracted service by the vessel’s agency. Only the Panama Canal Authority Marine Traffic Control (MTC) has the authority to request tugs for harbour service. This will be done via the harbour radio.

8. CRANES: 25 gantry cranes: 10 Post Panamax, 8 Panamax and 7 Super Post Panamax.

9. WASTE DISPOSAL: Available.

10. SLOPS DISPOSAL: Collection service is performed by private companies, using barges from 342–514 cu.m. capacity, or 30 cu.m. tanker truck, or 11 cu.m. vacuum truck.

11. WATER: Available at Docks No. 6, 7, 14 and 15.

12. FUEL: Bunker C, light diesel, fuel oil and marine diesel oil are available at anchorage by barge.

Crew members are required to connect and disconnect fuel lines on board vessels. Vessel must provide equipment to connect to 4 in. and 6 in. 150 ASA flanges.

A bunkering area has been established in the Pacific Anchorage.
