1. LOCATION: In the Balsas Delta between Ixtapa Zihuatanejo Bay and Playa Azul Bay on the Pacific coast, 272 km. from Morelia, the state capital.
2. OVERVIEW: Sheltered deep-water port with 4,158 m. of quay. It is currently the only port in Mexico capable of berthing 7th generation container ships up to 12,500 TEU capacity or displacement 165,000 tonnes.
3. MAXIMUM SIZE: Displacement 180,000 tonnes, 150,000 d.w.t., LOA 310 m., depth 16.0 m.
Bulk: Draft 16.5 m.
Containers: Depth 14.93 m.
Ro-Ro: Depth 11.60 m.
Tankers: Depth 13.11 m.
4. TRAFFIC: Port is multipurpose and handles dry and liquid bulk, containers, general cargo, tankers and Ro-Ro.
5. PILOTAGE: Compulsory for vessels greater than 2,500 g.t., vessels carrying dangerous goods and tug and tows
6. TUGS: Compulsory. Three tugs (1×2,000 h.p. and 2×4,000 h.p.).
Number of tugs according to vessel:
Container/general cargo vessels with LOA > 300 m., 70,000 d.w.t. require 3 Schottel type tugs (bollard pull > 50 tonnes each).
Container/general cargo vessels with LOA > 280 m., 60,000 d.w.t. require 2 Schottel type tugs (bollard pull > 50 tonnes each) plus 1 conventional tug (bollard pull ‡ 50 tonnes).
Independent of whether vessel has or has not stern and bow thrusters and under normal weather conditions.

10. SLOPS DISPOSAL: Reception facilities available for chemicals/NLS, oily mixtures containing chemicals, scale and sludge from tank cleaning, oily tank washings, oily residues and oily bilge water. Contact Agent.
