1. LOCATION: On the north coast of Cuba 27 n.m. (45 km.) west of Havana. La Boca is on the eastern entrance to the bay, Mariel on the SE corner of the bay and Terminal de Container Mariel on the NW side of the bay opposite Mariel.
2. OVERVIEW: Mariel is being developed as the deepwater port for Havana and transshipment port for the rest of Cuba. This is due to the restrictions within Havana for entry and depth within the port.
The port is developing Mariel Special Economic Zone (ZED Mariel) to handle both port and industrial infrastructure.
3. MAXIMUM SIZE: Containers: LOA 366 m., Depth 15.0 m. (CD).
4. TRAFFIC: Handles containerized, bulk, break bulk and general cargoes.
5. PILOTAGE: Compulsory.
6. TUGS: Available.
