1. LOCATION: On the north coast of Colombia, 70 km. ENE of Barranquilla.

2. OVERVIEW: Santa Marta is a multipurpose port. The natural harbour offers good protection from the prevailing winds.

3. MAXIMUM SIZE:

Breakbulk:  Depth 14.6 m.

Containers:  Depth 14.6 m.

Passengers:  Depth 14.6 m.

Ro-Ro:  Depth 17.4 m.

Bulk:  Depth 17.4 m.

Tankers:  Depth 11.6 m.

4. TRAFFIC: Handling containers, grain, paper, vehicles, dry chemicals, machinery, coal, bananas, coffee and vegetable oil.

5. PILOTAGE: Compulsory for all vessels over 200 g.t.

6. TUGS: Use of tugs for berthing, unberthing, anchoring or mooring to buoys and entrance/sailing compulsory is for all vessels 200 d.w.t. or more. For vessels less than 200 d.w.t., use of tug will be decided by Master/pilot depending on weather conditions.

Five tugs 2,500–7,000 h.p. available. Tugs join vessels just before entrance to inner harbour. They may use own or vessels' lines.

8. CRANES:

Berth No. 4: 280 tons/hour mobile crane

Berths No. 2-3: 2 post-Panamax gantry cranes

9. WASTE DISPOSAL: Garbage removal not compulsory. Garbage must not be disposed of overboard.

10. SLOPS DISPOSAL:  Sludge disposal available. Advise Agent of requirements before arrival.

11. WATER: Available alongside berths via pipeline.

12. FUEL: Available by tank trucks from Barranquilla and Cartagena. Bunkers can be supplied during cargo operations.

13. CHANDLERY: Available.
