PORT: Port au Prince

1. LOCATION: On the central western coast of the country at the eastern end of the Gulf of Gonaves. The bay faces west.
2. OVERVIEW: Capital port of the country. At the eastern end of the city is the dry cargo port primarily handling containers and general cargo. To SW and NE are two facilities handling bulk liquids. To the NE and north are several bulk terminals.
3. MAXIMUM SIZE:
Depth 9.5 m. (MLW).
Containers: Depth 9.0 m. (MLW).
Passengers: Depth 7.62–9.15 m. (MLW).
Bulk: Depth 9.5 m. (MLW).
Tankers: Depth 10.0–18.0 m. (MLW).
4. TRAFFIC: Port handles containers, general cargo, bulk cargo, Ro-Ro and liquid cargoes.
5. PILOTAGE: Compulsory for all movements of ships in the port over 800 g.t.
6. TUGS: 3×800–1,100 h.p. Compulsory for vessels 800 g.t. and over.
7. BERTHS:
Public berths within the main port area consist of 2 floating platform barge quays.
