1. LOCATION: On the central north coast of Colombia, within Bahia de Cartagena. Access to the Magdalena River is provided via the Dique Channel, the entrance to which is located within the bay.
2. OVERVIEW: Port facilities are within a deep-water bay, well protected from the wind and with weak currents. Includes facilities in the El Bosque district (Compas Terminal) and Ceballos district (Contecar Terminal).
3. MAXIMUM SIZE:
Cartagena:
Breakbulk: Draft 11.58 m. (CD).
Containers: 16,000 TEU, 180,000 d.w.t., depth 16.5 m. (CD).
Passengers: Depth 11.9 m. (CD).
Tankers: LOA 152.5 m., draft 8.47 m.
El Bosque:
Breakbulk: Depth 10.7 m. (CD)
Containers: 16,000 TEU, 180,000 d.w.t., depth 16.5 m. (CD).
Ro-Ro: 180,000 d.w.t., depth 16.5 m. (CD).
Bulk: Depth 12.0 m. (CD).
4. TRAFFIC: Handles dry and liquid bulk, breakbulk, containers and cruise traffic.
5. PILOTAGE: Compulsory for vessels entering and departing Bahia de Cartagena, as well as for shifting berth. Pilotage is available throughout 24 hours and may be provided by several private companies, order through Agent.
6. TUGS: Compulsory for vessels exceeding 2,000 g.t. There are three private tug companies available to assist with berthing. Agent can make necessary arrangements. Number of tugs to assist shall be decided by Master and attending pilot depending on weather conditions.

8. CRANES: Berths No. 1–3, quay equipped with 13×70 tonne super post-Panamax gantry cranes outreach 22 rows with twin lift capacity.
Berths No. 7–10 quay equipped with 8×70 tonne super post-Panamax gantry cranes outreach 22 rows with twin lift capacity.
Pier having berths No. 5 length 202 m. and No. 6 length 184 m., both handling feeder vessels, equipped with rail mounted cranes.
Compas Terminal: Equipment includes three Liebherr mobile cranes (45–100 tonnes),
9. WASTE DISPOSAL: Garbage removal not compulsory. Garbage must not be disposed of overboard.
Restricted solid waste disposal. Liquid sludge to be notified in advance of vessel's arrival.
10. SLOPS DISPOSAL: Sludge disposal available. Advise Agent of requirements before arrival.
11. WATER: Available alongside berths via pipeline.
12. FUEL: Available.
13. CHANDLERY: Available.
